 Abstract Nanomaterials based on lanthanide (Ln) and actinide (An) metals are of significant interest for various applications such as catalytic and energy production processes. Besides, lanthanide-based functional nanoparticles play an irreplaceable role in optical as well as biomedical applications due to their high temperature stability, defect chemistry and unique magnetic properties. Recently, the chemistry of actinide compounds has witnessed undeniable attention due to new insights into their structural and physicochemical properties and reactivity profiles. Specifically, their unique electronic structure, accessibility to different oxidation states and the significant role of 5f orbitals in bonding and reactivity has seen an increased research interest. Molecular routes to nanomaterials provide access to inorganic materials as well as composites under optimal control of size, morphology and phase purity. In this context, the synthesis of lanthanide and actinide containing heterometallic precursors is attractive, as they can be used to generate ternary compounds or composites which are highly homogenous at the atomic scale. This PhD thesis contains new findings on the synthesis of lanthanide and actinide alkoxides. The synthesis of homo- and heteroleptic bimetallic lanthanide alkoxides [LnM(L)m(OR)nsolv] and their structural investigations upon alteration of the ionic radii and the valence states of the metal centers is described. Furthermore, the role of the steric profile of the employed alkoxo ligand and the presence of donor ligands in the coordination sphere is discussed. Despite the presumed ionic nature of Ln-O and An-O bonds, such mixed-ligand complexes offer strikingly good volatility, which makes them potential single-source precursors for gas phase deposition of binary and ternary oxide phases. For the first time thin films of pyrochlore Nd2Sn2O7 could be deposited via liquid and gas phase, by using [NdSn(OtBu)5py] and [NdSn(L)(OtBu)4], respectively, as a molecular source. The sols prepared from mixed-metal Nd-Sn compounds were successfully electrospun to obtain single-phase Nd2Sn2O7 nanofibers. The photocatalytic and sensing properties of the prepared pyrochlore materials were investigated. The bilayered (Nd2Sn2O7//Fe2O3) photoanode exhibited a significant enhancement in photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance. Furthermore, the gas sensing measurement of Nd2Sn2O7 single layer showed a high selectivity towards hydrogen. In the next step, the properties of novel heterometallic actinide(IV, V, VI) alkoxides ([AnM(OR)n] and [UO2M2(OR)m(OAc)]2) were investigated. The reaction of a trivalent uranium compound with bivalent tin derivatives was investigated which allowed the isolation of the first monomeric pentavalent uranium tert-butoxide [U(OtBu)5py].  In a new synthetic strategy the Lewis basicity of the Sn(II) compound [Sn{N(SiMe3)2}2] was exploited to reduce uranyl groups (O=UVI=O) that delivered pentavalent uranyl-free compounds [U(OtBu)4(OAc)]2 in a facile reaction.   Zusammenfassung Nanomaterialien auf der Basis von Lanthanoid- (Ln) und Actinoid- (An) Elementen sind für verschiedene Anwendungen wie katalytische Prozesse und Energieerzeugungsprozesse von großem Interesse. Darüber hinaus spielen funktionelle Nanopartikel auf Lanthanoid-Basis aufgrund ihrer hohen Temperaturstabilität, Defektchemie und einzigartigen magnetischen Eigenschaften sowohl in optischen als auch in biomedizinischen Anwendungen eine weitreichende Rolle. In letzter Zeit hat die Chemie von Actinoid-Verbindungen aufgrund ihrer einzigartigen elektronischen Struktur, der Zugänglichkeit zu verschiedenen Oxidationsstufen und der signifikanten Rolle von 5f-Orbitalen für die Bindung und Reaktivität neue Anerkennung gefunden. Neue molekulare Wege ermöglichen den Zugang zu anorganischen Nanomaterialien sowie Kompositen unter optimaler Kontrolle von Größe, Morphologie und Phasenreinheit. In diesem Zusammenhang ist die Synthese von heterometallischen Präkursoren auf Basis von Lanthanoiden und Actinoiden ein vielversprechender Weg, um ternäre Nanomaterialien zu erhalten, die im atomaren Maßstab homogen sind. Diese Dissertation enthält neue Erkenntnisse zur Synthese von Lanthanoid- und Actinoidalkoholaten. Die Synthese von homo- und heteroleptischen bimetallischen Lanthanoidalkoxiden [LnM(L)m(OR)nsolv] und ihre Strukturuntersuchungen nach Änderung der Ionenradien und des Valenzzustands der Metallzentren wird beschrieben. Zudem wird der Einfluss des sterischen Profils des verwendeten Alkoxoliganden und die Anwesenheit eines Donorliganden evaluiert. Trotz der vermuteten ionischen Natur von Ln-O- und An-O-Bindungen weisen solche Mischligandenkomplexe eine bemerkenswert gute Flüchtigkeit auf, was sie zu potenziellen Single-Source-Präkursoren für die chemische Gasphasenabscheidung von binären und ternären Oxidphasen macht. Zum ersten Mal konnten Pyrochlor (Nd2Sn2O7) Dünnschichten mittels Flüssig- und Gasphasensynthese unter Verwendung von [NdSn(OtBu)5py] bzw. [NdSn(L)(OtBu)4] abgeschieden werden. Die aus Nd-Sn-Mischmetallverbindungen hergestellten Sole wurden erfolgreich elektrogesponnen, um einphasige Nd2Sn2O7 Nanofasern zu erhalten. Die photokatalytischen und sensorischen Eigenschaften der hergestellten Pyrochlor-Materialien wurden untersucht. Die zweischichtige Photoanode (Nd2Sn2O7//Fe2O3) zeigte eine signifikante Verbesserung der photoelektrochemischen (PEC) Leistung. Darüber hinaus zeigte die Gas-Sensor-Messung von Nd2Sn2O7-Einzelschichten eine hohe Selektivität für Wasserstoff. Im nächsten Schritt wurde die Entwicklung neuer heterometallischer Actinoid (IV, V, VI) -Alkoxide ([AnM(OR)n] und [UO2M2(OR)m(OAc)]2) untersucht. Die Reaktion der dreiwertigen Uranverbindung mit einem zweiwertigen Zinnderivat wurde untersucht, wodurch die erste monomere fünfwertige Uran-tert-butoxid-Verbindung [U(OtBu)5py] isoliert werden konnte. Mithilfe einer neuartigen Synthesestrategie wurde die Lewis-Basizität der Sn(II)-Verbindung [Sn{N(SiMe3)2}2] ausgenutzt, um Uranylgruppen (O=UVI=O) zu reduzieren, die in einer einfachen Reaktion die pentavalente uranylfreie Verbindung [U(OtBu)4(OAc)]2 liefert.
