Acceso y procesamiento de información sobre problemas científicos con relevancia social: limitaciones en la alfabetización científica de los ciudadanos

Abstract

This paper focuses on the interaction between citizens and scientific information. This interaction is necessary to understand socially relevant scientific and technological problems. The authors describe the search for scientific information about these problems and discuss the obstacles found by a citizen who attempts this search. As a conclusion, it is pointed out that several variables may influence the difficulties mentioned before: characteristics of the information system, the nature of scientific information and the citizens’own capabilities and dispositions.Este artículo se centra en la interacción entre los ciudadanos y la información científica necesaria para la comprensión de problemas tecno-científicos con relevancia social. Se describe el proceso de búsqueda de información científica sobre estos problemas, y se analizan los obstáculos con los que se encuentra un ciudadano en esta búsqueda. Se concluye apuntando variables con posible influencia en las dificultades encontradas: las características de los sistemas de información, la naturaleza de la información científica, y las disposiciones y capacidades de los propios ciudadanos
