Abstract
Through a comparative book review, I indicate a phenomenon in literature which, exploring the origins of Polish modernity, transcends the traditional genre divisions, that is, literary studies, historiography, or historical geography, taking a form most akin to landscape anthropology. The publications I discuss address the need for a more profound understanding of the so-called industrial scars and the various dimensions of the experience of the nineteenthcentury industrial revolution, particularly its effects on natural environments in Polish and European cities. Furthermore, I contextualise these publications within the current field of environmental humanities and the studies on eco-catastrophes emerging from it. In doing so, I analyse a method of reading space that aligns with these new, evolving geohistorical narratives and writing practices.Za pomocą recenzji porównawczej wskazuję na literaturę, która badając źródła polskiej nowoczesności, wychodzi poza dotychczasowy podział gatunkowy na literaturoznawstwo, historiografię czy geografię historyczną ku formie najbardziej zbliżonej do problematyki z zakresu antropologii krajobrazu. Omawiane publikacje odpowiadają na potrzebę głębszego prześledzenia tzw. industrial scars i różnych wymiarów doświadczenia, którym była dziewiętnastowieczna rewolucja przemysłowa i jej wpływ na środowiska przyrodnicze, przede wszystkim w miastach Polski i Europy. Dodatkowo, osadzając te publikacje w nurcie humanistyki środowiskowej i rozwijanych tam studiów nad ekokatastrofą, analizuję metodę czytania przestrzeni, która odwzorowuje te nowe, kształtujące się, geohistoryczne narracje i praktyki pisania
