Feminine strokes in French intellectual history of the late Middle Ages: The didactic literature and the legitimization of the self in Christine de Pizan’s Le chemin de longue étude.

Abstract

Hacia 1402, Christine de Pizan escribe Le Chemin de Longue Étude, obra híbridacompuesta por un sueño, un viaje y un debate entre alegorías celestiales. El carácterautobiográfico de la visión y del viaje, por un lado, y la voluntad pedagógica que se esconderíadetrás de la polémica entre las alegorías, por el otro, tienen por finalidad demostrar que elcamino que Christine de Pizan transita para adquirir conocimiento es un artificio tras el cualnuestra prolífera autora disimula un itinerario hacia la legitimación del yo, fundamentalmentecomo intelectual y resulta ser, asimismo, una táctica escritural destinada a posicionar a Christinede Pizan en el círculo de intelectuales comprometidos con la ilustración de la nobleza francesa.In 1402, Christine de Pizan writes Le Chemin de Longue Étude, hybrid workconsisting of a dream, a journey through earth and heaven and a debate between celestialallegories. The autobiographical nature of the vision and the journey, on the one hand, and thedesire to teach that will be hidden behind the controversy between the allegories, on the otherhand, are aimed at demonstrating that the path of knowledge that Christine de Pizan passes is aartifice behind which our prolific author conceals a route towards legitimizing the self as anintellectual and it also is a tactic aimed at positioning Christine de Pizan in the circle ofintellectuals committed to the illustration of the French nobility.Fil: Amor, Lidia.
