Az anyag egyenesszárnyúak, kisebb részben rokon rendek példányait tartalmazza, melyeket zömé-ben a szerző gyűjtött 1950 és 2014 között, elsősorban a Kárpát-medence területén és a Mediterrá-neumban, kisebb részben Észak-Amerikában, Ázsiában, Észak-Afrikában és Európa más területein. A gyűjteményben felpreparált egyenesszárnyúakon kívül formalinos, alkoholos és száraz fiolázott példányok is találhatók. A gyűjtemény jelentőségét növeli, hogy a múzeum Orthoptera-anyaga 1956-ban nagyrészt elpusztult. A gyűjtéseket évenkénti gyűjtési naplók is kiegészítik.Kulcsszavak – gyűjtési naplók, múzeumi gyarapodás, OrthopteraBEVEZETÉSA Magyar Természettudományi Múzeum (MTM) Állattárának Baross utcai épü-letét súlyos károk érték az 56-os forradalom alatt. Belövések következtében kü-lönösen a hüllő és kétéltű gyűjtemény alkoholos anyaga táplálta „látványosan” a tűzvészt. Arról kevesebb szó esik, hogy ugyanakkor az egyenesszárnyú (Orthop-tera) és kapcsolódó gyűjteményeket is pótolhatatlan veszteség érte.Később külföldi múzeumok ajándékozásának köszönhetően jelentős anya-gokat kapott az Állattár Orthoptera gyűjteménye is, ezek nagy része természete-sen külföldről, sőt más földrészekről származott, így nem pótolhatta az elpusz-tult anyagot. Nagy Barnabás gyűjteménye 2015-ben az Állattárba kerülve jelentős mértékben hozzájárult a Kárpát-medencei gyűjtemény-rész pótlásához, hason-lóan a korábban ugyancsak az Állattárba került Ujhelyi Sándor magyarországi, valamint Kis Béla erdélyi gyűjtéseihez.A történeti hűség kedvéért és egyben ezzel az anyaggal a későbbiekben dol-gozni óhajtók tájékoztatására röviden összefoglaljuk a Nagy Barnabás-féle gyűj-temény fontosabb jellemzőit.Annls Mus. hist.-nat. hung. 108, 2016288 Nagy B.A GYŰJTEMÉNY LÉTESÍTÉSE ÉS FEJLESZTÉSEA címben megjelölt Orthoptera-gyűjteményt 1950-től fokozatosan alakítottam ki és folyamatosan gyarapítottam a Növényvédelmi Kutatóintézet (NKI) Állat-tani Osztálya keretében. A gyűjtemény a Földművelésügyi Minisztériumhoz, majd később a Magyar Tudományos Akadémiához, 2015-ben pedig ajándéko-zás révén a Magyar Természettudományi Múzeum Állatárába került (1. ábra). A gyűjtemény létesítése jobbára szabadságom, munkaszüneti napok és „túlórá-im” terhére történt, mivel az intézeti tervek az évtizedek során csak mintegy 3-4 évente tartalmaztak Orhoptera tárgyú, (vagy kapcsolódó) kutatási témát. A gyűj-temény-építés anyagi alapjait (rovarszekrények, gyűjtő felszerelés) és elhelyezé-sét – a szakmai kívánalmaknak és szabványoknak részben megfelelve – az NKI folyamatosan biztosította. 1. ábra. C) Insect box with collectings in the Bükk Mountain from the 1960’s and 1970’sBA C289Annls Mus. hist.-nat. hung. 108, 2016Nagy Barnabás gyűjteményeA gyűjtemény létesítését (gyűjtés, preparálás) 80–90%-ban magam végez-tem, esetenként alkalmi asszisztensek mellett főként Schvenk Mária (később Hornokné), Kinál Ferenc, Puskás Gellért, Szalay-Marzsó László és Szövényi Ger-gely járultak hozzá a gyűjtemény gyarapításához és gondozásához. Jelentős ro-mániai (erdélyi), valamint kisázsiai anyaggal egészítették ki a gyűjteményt Kis Béla illetve Rozner István adományai is. A gyűjtemény részét képezi a korábban az NKI madártani részlegében tevékenykedő Szijj József néhány rovardoboznyi Orthoptera-gyűjteménye is.A GYŰJTEMÉNY RENDSZERTANI LEFEDETTSÉGE, MEGOSZLÁSAAz Orthoptera renden belül a Tettigonioidea, Grylloidea és Acridoidea öreg-családokba tartozó példányok együttesen a gyűjtemény mintegy 90%-át teszik ki (ezen belül 5–7%-ra tehető a fiatalabb fejlődési stádiumokban begyűjtött és kinevelt példányok mennyisége). Egyéb orthopteroid (Blattodea, Mantodea, Phasmodea, Dermaptera rendekbe sorolt) rovarok mintegy 10%-nyi mennyisé-get képviselnek.A GYŰJTÉSEK TERÜLETI MEGOSZLÁSAA gyűjteményi anyag területi megoszlása igen változatos. Magyarországi kb. 75%, egyéb Kárpát-medencei 15%, további európai, főleg Dél-európai 7%, más földrészekről (Ázsia, É-Amerika, É-Afrika), többnyire ugyancsak saját gyűjtésből származó példányok mennyisége 3%-ra becsülhető. A magyarországi anyagban a nagytájak arányosan képviseltek, azonban ezeken belül kiemelkedő a Magyar Középhegységből (elsősorban a Budai-hegységből, a Pilis–Visegrádi-hegységből, a Vértesből), továbbá a Duna-Tisza-közéről és a Tiszántúlról származó anyag.A GYŰJTEMÉNY MÉRETE, JELLEGEA gyűjtemény nagyságára vonatkozó teljesebb felmérés még várat magára. A je-lenlegi 9 rovarszekrényben, 220 db szabvány méretű dobozban 37 400 orthopte-roid rovarpéldány van (Puskás Gellért 2013. áprilisi felmérése alapján). Részben speciális vizsgálatokra elkülönített, kisebb, vegyes nagyságú és minőségű doboz-ban (kb. 85 db) több ezer feltűzött, illetve preparált, és kb. 2000 száraz, prepará-latlan példány található. Folyadékos (formalin, alkohol) fiolákban további kb. 10–12 000 példány található.A gyűjtemény főleg Orthoptera-faunisztikai, biológiai, ökológiai tanulmá-nyok hátteréül szolgál és túlnyomóan a Kárpát-medence fajait öleli fel, jelentős hangsúlyt fektetve a magyarországi gazdasági kártevő Orthoptera-fajokra is. Annls Mus. hist.-nat. hung. 108, 2016290 Nagy B.A gyűjtemény részét képezik továbbá a Blattodea, Mantodea, Dermaptera ren-dekbe tartozó példányok is, amely rendeket korábban „Orthopteroid” összefog-laló név alatt általában együttesen kezeltek az Orthoptera renddel.JELENLEGI ELRENDEZÉSE, ÁLLAPOTAAz Orthoptera-gyűjtemény 1950–1970 között a NKI Herman Ottó utcai épü-letében (Budapest II. kerület), majd (2015-ig) a NKI Julianna-majori telepén (Nagykovácsi, Ady-liget), 2015-től a MTM Állattárában (Kisebb rovarrendek gyűjteménye, Baross u. 13.) kapott helyet.A preparált anyag a behatóbb vizsgálatra elkülönített kisebb rendszertani egységeken (Myrmecophilus, Saga, Isophya, Blattodea, Dermaptera) kívül tájegy-ségenként (pl. Budai-hegység, Pilis, Mátra, Dunántúli-középhegység stb.), míg a külföldi anyag országonként van csoportosítva.A gyűjtemény végleges cédulázása még befejezetlen, illetve részben provi-zórikus. A cédulázás folytatása, illetve befejezése a gyűjtési naplók alapján folya-matban van és további jelentős munkát igényel.A korábbi, esetenként nem kielégítő gyűjtemény-gondozás miatt a gyűjte-mény kb. 2–3%-ban erősen, 4–5%-ban gyengén károsodott (fertőzött, rágott). A  fertőzöttséget 2014 januárjában a gyűjtemény teljes ciános fertőtlenítésével megszüntették és az Állattárba már a fertőtlenített anyag került. A gyűjtemény két költöztetése – mint általában a feltűzött nagyobb termetű rovarok esetében – további kismértékű károsodással is járt.A GYŰJTEMÉNY ESZMEI ÉRTÉKEA fentiekben áttekintően ismertetett Orthoptera-gyűjtemény önmagában való értékén túl felértékelődik annak következtében, hogy az MTM egyes gyűjtemé-nyeinek 1956-os részleges pusztulása, károsodása e csoportot súlyosan érintette.A gyűjtemény eddig is alapul szolgált különböző faunisztikai, állatföldraj-zi, természetvédelmi, növényvédelmi és biológiai tanulmányokhoz, amelyeket – részben társszerzőkkel – készítettem. E-mail: nagy.barnabas@nhmus.huAbstract – By means of donation, the collection of Barnabás Nagy was transmitted to the Natural History Museum from the Plant Protection Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The material contains orthopterans and representatives of some related orders which were mostly col-lected by the author between 1950 and 2014, in the Carpathian Basin, in the Mediterranean and to a lesser extent, in North America, in Asia, in North Africa and at some European localities. Apart from the prepared orthopterans, the collection also contains specimens in formalin, in alcohol and stored in a dried condition in vials. The collection is all the more important as most of the Orthop-tera material of the Museum was lost in the fire of 1956. The new acquisition is also documented by annual collecting books. Key words – Orthoptera, museum acquisitions, collecting booksINTRODUCTIONDuring the revolution of 1956, the building of the Hungarian Natural History Museum suffered serious losses. Following the bomb damage, the alcohol content of the amphibian and reptile collections flared up the fire and other collections were also irreversibly damaged, like the Orthoptera and related insect collections.The Orthoptera collection of the Department of Zoology also received valu-able donations from foreign museums after the catastrophe, but these mostly origi-nated from outside of Hungary (many of them from other continents), so these do-nations could by no means replace the original material. The collection of Barnabás Nagy, transmitted to the HNHM in 2015, greatly contributed to the replacement of the material from the Carpathian Basin, just like the collections of Sándor Ujhelyi (from Hungarian localities) and Béla Kis (from Transsylvanian localities).For historical fidelity, and for those who wish to work with this collection later on, I summarize the main attributes of the Nagy collection.ESTABLISHING AND DEVELOPING THE COLLECTIONI have been developing my Orthoptera collection gradually from 1950 onwards, within the framework provided by the Zoological Department of the Plant Annls Mus. hist.-nat. hung. 108, 2016292 Nagy B.Protection Institute (NKI). The collection belonged first to the Ministry of Ag-riculture and later on to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, from where it was transmitted to the Hungarian Natural History Museum by donation in 2015 (Fig. 1.). The foundations of the collection were laid down during my days off, free time and overtime as the institutional agenda only listed research topics re-lated to orthopterans evey 3 or 4 years over the decades. The material background for the development of the collection (storage cabinets and collecting equipment partly meeting the standards and professional requirements) were provided by the NKI. Processing and maintenance (collecting, preparation) was carried out in 80–90% by myself, and beside the help from temporary assistents mainly Mária Schvenk, Ferenc Kinál, Gellért Puskás, László Szalay-Marzsó and Gergely Szövényi contributed to the enrichment and the maintenance of the collection. The donations of Béla Kis (material from Transsylvania) and István Rozner (ma-terial from Asia Minor) meant significant additions to the collection. A few boxes filled with orthopterans by József Szijj working at the Ornithological Section of the NKI at the time, are also part of this collection. SYSTEMATIC COVERAGE OF THE COLLECTION  AND ITS DIVISIONSWithin the order Orthoptera, specimens belonging to the superfamilies Tettigo-nioidea, Grylloidea and Acridoidea make up about 90% of the collection (within which specimens collected in the early stages of their life cycle and then reared in the lab make up 5–7%). Other orthopteroid insects (belonging to the Blattodea, Mantodea, Phasmodea, Dermaptera orders) make up the remaining 10%.GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION OF COLLECTING LOCALITIESThe material originates from diverse locations. About 75% of it was collected within Hungary, 15% from other localities within the Carpathian Basin, 7% comes from other European – mostly Southern European – locations, and other continents (Asia, North America, North Africa) are represented in 3%, these also had been collected mostly by the author. Within the Hungarian material, the regions are represented by quasi equal amounts of specimens but the material ori ginating from the Hungarian Mountain Range (primarily from the Buda Mts., the Pilis–Visegrád Mts. and the Vértes), as well as from the Great Hungarian Plain amounts to more than other regions. 293Annls Mus. hist.-nat. hung. 108, 2016The collection of Barnabás NagySIZE AND CHARACTER OF THE COLLECTIONThe collection still awaits a more detailed examination as for its total size. Cur-rently, 220 standard boxes with 37,400 specimens of orthopteroid insects fill 9 in-sect cabinets (according to the assessment of Gellért Puskás made in April 2013). There are several thousand pinned or prepared specimens in various types of boxes (about 85) kept separately for specific examination as well as about 2,000 dried unprepared specimens. In formalin or alcohol a further 10–12,000 speci-mens are kept in vials.The collection is appropriate as a background for faunistic, biological or ecological studies and it mostly represents the Orthoptera fauna of the Carpathi-an Basin, with a special emphasis on agricultural pests within Hungary. Speci-mens belonging to the Blattodea, Mantodea, Dermaptera orders (earlier called Orthopteroids in a collective manner and often managed along with the order Orthoptera) are also part of this collection.CURRENT ARRANGEMENT AND CONDITION  OF THE COLLECTIONThe Orthoptera collection used to be housed in the NKI building on Herman Ottó Street (Budapest, 2nd district) between 1950 and 1970, and then (until 2015) at the NKI site at the Julianna-major (Nagykovácsi, Ady-liget), From 2015 on-wards, it is housed in the Department of Zoology of the HNHM (Collection of smaller insect orders, Budapest, 13 Baross Str.).The prepared materials are organized according to lower taxonomic cate-gories (Myrmecophilus, Saga, Isophya, Blattodea, Dermaptera) for the purposes of specific examination. Apart from this, geographical regions (such as the Buda Mts., the Pilis, the Mátra, the Transdanubian Mountain Range) are also sorted accordingly while the material from abroad is categorized by country.Final labelling of the collection has not been completed yet. Continuation of this process and its completion based on the collection books is ongoing but represent a significant amount of work.Due to occasional failures and shortcomings in the maintenance of the col-lection, about 2–3% of it is seriously damaged, while a further 4–5% it suffered slight damages (infected or gnawed). Infestation was terminated in January 2014 by applying cyanide disinfectant and thus it was already sterilized by the time it was transmitted to the Department of Zoology. The two removals of the collection also caused slight damages, mostly to large sized, pinned insects, as it is usual.Annls Mus. hist.-nat. hung. 108, 2016294 Nagy B.THEORETICAL VALUE OF THE COLLECTIONOn top of what it is worth for the specimens it contains, the Orthoptera collec-tion gains even more value when considering the losses to the collections of the HNHM during the 1956 conflagration.The collection has so far served as a basis of various faunistic, biogeogra-phical, conservation, plant protection and biology oriented studies that I wrote occasionally together with co-authors. The assorted listing of these papers is now available as a manuscript thanks to Gellért Puskás and is attached as an annex to the collection books.
