Kadokura, N. Sato, T. Nagatsuma 1KUHW, STEL, 3NIPR, 4NICT   Reverse currents have often been observed at subauroral to equatorial latitudes during substorm expansion phase. The reverse current has been explained by means of an overshielding electric field due to the Region-2 field-aligned current (R2 FAC) that overwhelmed the convection electric field. We have shown that the overshielding occurred concurrently with increase in the convection electric field and occurred almost simultaneously the positive bay in the midnight. In order to clarify the temporal and spatial evolution of the R2 FAC during substorm expansion, we compared an optical aurora observed in Iceland with magnetometers and SuperDARN data for a substorm event on September 26, 2003. We show that overshielding occurs at subauroral to equatorial latitudes on the dayside 70 seconds after the auroral breakup at the nightside auroral latitude. Considering that the R2 FAC is connected with the partial ring current, we suggest that a current circuit is created between the inner magnetosphere and the subauroral - equatorial ionosphere a few minutes after initial brightening of the aurora on the nightside.  サブストーム爆発相に赤道カウンタージェット電流の発達が、昼側磁気赤道の磁力計で頻繁に観測される。この赤道カウンタージェット電流の発達は、昼側磁気赤道で過遮蔽が生じたことを意味し、領域２型沿磁力線電流（R-2 FAC）の西向き電場が原因と解釈される。われわれはサブストーム時に過遮蔽が発生する原因が対流電場の減少ではなく、領域２型沿磁力線電流（R-2 FAC）の急激な増大であることを高緯度から赤道までの磁力計ネットワーク観測とSuperDARN のデータを用い示してきた。夜側高緯度を中心として発達するサブストーム電流やオーロラ活動と、赤道カウンタージェット電流を含む昼側の領域2型電流系の時間的、空間的関係を明らかにすることは、サブストーム爆発相のメカニズムを解明するための重要な手がかりとなりうる。これまでに、サブストーム爆発相に夜側中緯度の磁力計により観測されるポジティブベイの開始と過遮蔽発生の時刻を比較し、ほぼ同時か、過遮蔽の方が数分前に始まる傾向を見いだした。しかしサブストーム爆発相の開始時刻は、同定する指標として何を用いるかによって数分の差が生じる可能性がある。そこで今回、2003年9月26日にアイスランドTjornesで観測されたサブストーム爆発相のオーロラ画像データを用い、夜側のオーロラの増光と昼側のR-2 FAC発達との時間的関係を調べた。2003年9月26日2318:50UTにTjornesで全天カメラの視界の西端からオーロラブレイクアップが始まった。このときTjornesは23MLT付近に位置していた。70秒遅れて夜側低緯度のSanta Mariaではポジティブベイが発達し始め、それと同時に午後側サブオーロラ帯のKing Salmon（アラスカ）やCARISMA（カナダ）地磁気観測点、および昼側磁気赤道に位置するYapで過遮蔽が始まった。オーロラが極方向に拡大するとともに、12-14MLT、65-70度地磁気緯度のプラズマ流の視線速度が、東向きに変化することがSuperDARNにより観測された。この東向きプラズマ流の高緯度側では、もともと存在した西向きプラズマ流が強められたことから、対流電場が弱まったのではなく、このフローシア付近を中心に下向き沿磁力線電流、すなわちR2-FACが急速に発達したことがわかる。本研究によりオーロラブレイクアップが発生し、70秒後にR-2 FACを含む昼側サブストーム電流系と夜側のサブストーム電流が発達し始めることが明らかになった。
