Lo llamado políticamente correcto constituye la manifestación de una ideología impuesta por la sociedad. Crea una imagen de ella que se impone en el discurso mediático y político, aunque no trasciende al comportamiento. Por tanto, en el fondo no muestra la ideología real del grupo, sino una imagen ficticia y positiva, en una clara muestra de hipocresía. En este artículo analizamos textos del discurso público, político y mediático, desde una metodología de Análisis del discurso y revisamos el concepto de imagen que está en la base de la teoría de la cortesía verbalWhat is "politically correct", so called, constitutes the manifestation of an ideology which society enforces. It gives rise to an image of that same society within the discourses of media and politics, although never affecting behaviour as such. Thus, at bottom it does not bring to the fore the group's real ideology, but rather an image which is fictitious and positive in a clear show of hypocrisy. From the perspective of the tenets of Discourse Analysis, in this article texts are explored that belong to public, political and media-based discourses, while a re-examination is made of the concept of image that represents the basis of the theory of verbal politeness
