The crisis of the Spanish monarchy as seen in the Intendency of Arizpe. Insurgence and counter-insurgence

Abstract

En este artículo se analiza el levantamiento de Miguel Hidalgo en la intendencia de Arizpe, provincia fronteriza de la Nueva España. Se destaca la importancia que tuvieron los soldados de los presidios en el combate a los insurgentes provenientes de la Nueva Galicia. Se muestra que el esfuerzo de los soldados presidiales tuvo como consecuencia la rebelión de los soldados ópatas en 1820 y la vinculación de los soldados criollos al movimiento independentista encabezado por Agustín de Iturbide.This article discusses the uprising of Miguel Hidalgo in the intendency of Arizpe, border province of the New Spain.We emphasize the importance that had the soldiers of the presidios in the struggle against the insurgents, which camefrom Nueva Galicia. We show also thathre effort of presidiales soldiers had as consequences the rebellion of the opatas soldiers in 1820 and the linking of the Creole soldiers to the independence movement led by Agustín de Iturbide
