Building Participative Citizenship in the Information Society

Abstract

Este trabajo recoge parte de los resultados de una investigación consistente en la aplicación de un currículum alternativo, vinculado al concepto de ciudadanía y a los medios de comunicación, en diversos Institutos de Educación Secundaria. El objetivo principal era observar los cambios cognoscitivos y actitudinales que se producían en los adolescentes respecto a los medios de comunicación. La intervención educativa estaba centrada en el alumnado; incentivando su reflexión crítica y su participación a través del uso las tecnologías de la información, de la lectura crítica y la producción de mensajes mediáticos.This paper presents part of the results obtained from research and shows the application of an alternative curriculum linked to the concept of citizenship and the mass media in secondary schools. Our main goal was to verify cognitive and attitude changes in the adolescents subject to the experiment with regards to mass media. The teaching methodology focused on the students, and it stimulated their critical reflection and their participation through activities involving the use of information and communication technologies, critical analysis and production of media messages
