Parenting education programs. What do we know about this domain in Romania?

Abstract

The changes that have taken place in marriage, labor market and increased women's paid labor has changed the way people see privacy, domesticity, parenting, raising and caring for children. Since the 60s there was also a paradigm shift in addressing children's behavioral problems and the focus was moved from the child's undesirable behavior change, to behavior change of their parents, considering two premises: that parental practices greatly contribute to the development of children's early behavior (and studies have begun to decipher even more mechanisms by which this phenomenon occurs) and that parents can act as therapists or behavioral change agents for their children. In other words, it was considered that behavioral problems in children (including in terms of prevention) can be managed through training of parents or parental education programs. The purpose of our presentation is to describe the development of this field in Romania, taking into account the most important programs in progress.parenting education; domesticity; parenting; childhood; parental practices
