Session-Level Integration, Meaningful Learning and Artificial Intelligence: The Future of Medical Education

Abstract

Integration serves as an educational strategy that builds connections between basic and clinical sciences. Horizontal integration, vertical integration, and spiral integration have emerged as the three strategies for structuring an integrated curriculum. Students who comprehend the causal connections between basic science and clinical practice have improved diagnostic reasoning and knowledge retention. Besides program-level and course-level integration, session-level integration is essential for students to connect basic knowledge with diseases. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has expanded in the realm of medical education. It now provides excellent tools to integrate basic and clinical domains through innovative simulation and visualization technologies, including concept maps
