One of the causes related to the shortage of physicians is thought to be an increased percentage of women doctors in Japan. Recently, a percentage of women among medical students accounts for 25-35%, and almost one third of them resign during a period of child birth and child care. Under these situations, government together with Japanese medical society, and each of the local medical institutions begin to start presenting several flexible choices of working style for women doctors, yet unsatisfactory.
