This confrontation brings to light a fundamental similarity in the two approaches and three differences, two significant differences concerns the relationship between logic and argumentation in semantic analysis and the second concerns the theoretical framework proper to each approach.Me plaçant dans le cadre d'une histoire comparée de la linguistique, je confronte la description donnée par un grammairien arabe du XIIIème siècle de la particule lâkin(na) et celle donnée par Ducrot de mais. Cette confrontation met en évidence une ressemblance essentielle et trois différences —une mineure et deux majeures— entre ces deux descriptions. La première des deux différences majeures concerne les rapports qu'entretiennent logique et argumentation dans la description sémantique et la seconde le cadre théorique où s'inscrit chacune de ces deux descriptions
