Sub prosthetics stomatitis is considered one of the most frequently pathologies that affect oral tissues in those who are wearing total dentures, so the aim of this study was to determine the frequency of sub prosthetics stomatitis in patients wearing total dentures and who were taking care of in the Dental School of The University of The Andes, Mérida, Venezuela. A descriptive study was done on a sample of 59 subjects between 40 and 80 years old, during a period of a year. 56% of the sample showed sub prosthetics stomatitis, most frequently found in women. The high frequency of patients with different degrees of sub prosthetics stomatitis could be related to the presence of factors like: bad habits of use, poor hygiene of the denture, internal irregularities and faults in the contour and edges, stability, retention, adaptation and occlusion of the denture.La estomatitis subprotésica se considera una de las patologías más frecuentes que afectan los tejidos bucales de los sujetos portadores de dentaduras totales. Por tanto, el propósito de este estudio fue determinar la frecuencia de estomatitis subprotésica en pacientes portadores de dentadura total, que fueron atendidos en la Facultad de Odontología, Universidad de Los Andes, estado Mérida, Venezuela. Para ello, se realizó un estudio descriptivo, sobre una muestra de 59 sujetos entre 40 y 80 años de edad, portadores de dentaduras totales, durante el período de un año. 56% de la muestra presentó estomatitis subprotésica, la cual fue encontrada con mayor frecuencia en el género femenino. La alta frecuencia de pacientes con diferentes grados de estomatitis subprotésica podría estar relacionada con la presencia de factores como: malos hábitos de uso, higiene deficiente de la prótesis, irregularidades internas y fallas en el contorno y bordes, stabilidad, retención, adaptación y oclusión de la dentadura
