In Athol Fugard’sStatements After An Arrest Under the Immorality Act set inapartheid South Africa where relationships across the colorbarrier are a criminal offense, the Man and the Woman debatetheir love for an hour, only to be caught in the act andinterrogated.  The play is a compelling and deeply moving lovestory in which the lovers share their deepest longings forpersonal and emotional freedom. Director James A. Williams has appeared on major stageslocally and nationally and created the role of Roosevelt Hicksin the world premiere of August Wilson’s Radio Golf, whichhe later debuted on Broadway.A founding company member of Penumbra Theatre, Williamshas received several awards including City Pages’ Actor of theYear and the Star Tribune’s Artist of the Year, an Ivey Awardfor performance excellence, and he is a TheatreCommunications Group New Generations Leadership Fellow. In 2012, he received Macalester’s Distinguished CitizenAlumni Award that recognizes alumni who have demonstratedoutstanding leadership, achievement and active involvementwith their local community through their lifetime.
