Since 1901, they have provided a safe refuge for abuse, abandoned, and neglected children in San Antonio and Bexar County. Today, The Children’s Shelter offers emergency shelter and residential treatment for children in crisis and helps children find permanent homes through foster care and adoption. Healthy Families America (HFA)  http://www.healthyfamiliesamerica.org/  Healthy Families America (HFA) is a nationally recognized evidence-based home visiting program model designed to work with overburdened families who are at-risk for adverse childhood experiences, including child maltreatment.  It is the primary home visiting model best equipped to work with families who may have histories of trauma, intimate partner violence, mental health and/or substance abuse issues.  HFA services begin prenatally or right after the birth of a baby and are offered voluntarily, intensively and over the long-term (3 to 5 years after the birth of the baby). Safe Place: The Center for Child Protection and Health is staffed by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, psychologists, social workers and other Hospital personnel. By addressing these problems, SEEK aims to strengthen families, support parents, and thereby enhance children's health, development and safety, while helping to  prevent child maltreatment.  Teen PAT http://www.parentsasteachers.org/partnering-with-teen-parents The Parents as Teachers leadership team and Board of Directors is engaged in a three-year strategic plan, which positions the organization as a valued partner to support the organizations and professionals who serve families and children, especially those most vulnerable. The concept for Parents as Teachers was developed in the 1970s when Missouri educators noted that children were beginning kindergarten with varying levels of school readiness. Research showed that greater parent involvement is a critical link in the child's development of learning skills, including reading and writing. A two-day training for all professionals who work with adolescent parents offers constructive insights into teen parents, their children, and the issues they all face.
