TheRecovery Room (aka theJames Sammons Auditorium) islocated on the third floor of the Jesse H. Jones Library Building.  This servesas our staff offices (the desk sitting at center stage being the prime location),storage area for supplies, and a very creative shelving arrangement basedupon the row and seat numbers.  The McGovern Historical Collections andResearch Center staff have made this unique arrangement work for ourrecovery operations and are very grateful to the Houston Academy ofMedicine for making this space available to the Library.The Recovery Room StaffKimberly Youngblood is the project archivist forour flood recovery efforts.  She has completedher Master’s degree in Public History from theUniversity of Houston.  While working on herdegree she worked for a short while in thearchive at Baylor College of Medicine.  Kimberlyis currently working with other staff members onthe sorting and reprocessing the McGovernCenter’s institutional collections.  Her main focuswill be manuscript collections from Dr. SamNixon, Dr. William Spencer, and other TMC       faculty members.Jeff Goldberg has a degree in psychology from Oklahoma State University inStillwater.  He worked for several years at ExxonMobil before coming to theKimberly Youngblood andJeff Goldberg working on theDamaged Archivescontinues on page 2Sammons Auditorium Housing 800 Boxes ofDamaged Documents2NEW DATABASE JOURNAL CITATION REPORTSThe HAM–TMC Library now has a subscription to ISI’s JournalCitation Reports (JCR).  JRC is a unique tool for journal evaluation,using citation data drawn from over 8,400 journals from over 3,000publishers worldwide to access the impact of journals in the areas ofscience, technology, and social sciences.It is the online equivalent to Journal Impact Factors.  The scienceedition of JCR contains about 5,000 journals in the areas of scienceand technology. Jeff’s current job is processing the damaged licensure files from the Texas State Board of MedicalExaminers.  He will be entering information from the records in the Gazetteer of Texas and assisting with manuscript collections and the recovery of the damaged book collections.Pam Cornell has been with the Library for a little over a year.  She is the projectarchivist for the collections of papers from R. Lee Clark, M.D. and otherresearchers at the U. T. M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.  Her special projectwas funded through a two-year grant from the Friends of the Texas MedicalCenter Library.  Because her office is on the second floor of the Library andlarge portions of her collections are in the Recovery Room, she has become oneof  freight elevator specialists in moving trucks of materials.Manny Gonzales has a degree in English from Brown University.  With over 300serial titles in the archive, he is becoming the TMC newsletter expert.  Manny issorting the damaged serial titles, recording the losses, reboxing the volumes, andwill be trying to locate replacements for the many gaps in our institutionalcollections.  He will also be assisting Pam Cornell with the R. Lee Clark papers and handling requests from our clientsfor photocopies and reproductions.  Although his Recovery Room desk is “Center Stage”, he also has work areas onthe Street Level in the archive stacks and in the rare book room on the second floor of the Library.Pam Cornell and Manny Gonzalezcontinued from page 13On Monday, December 10,  2001, the HAM–TMC Library extended its remote-access service to cardholders notaffiliated with TMC educational institutions.  There are now 3 levels of access based on licensing agreements:TMC Educational Access - includes students, faculty, and staff of TMC educational institutions.  Those at this levelhave access to 4,000 ejournals and 100 databases.· Baylor College of Medicine· Institute of Biosciences and Technology of Texas A&M University· Prairie View A&M College of Nursing· Texas Woman’s University - Houston· University of Texas Health Science Center - Houston· University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center· University of Houston College of Pharmacy· University of Houston College of OptometryTMC Institutional - This group includes HAM–TMC Library cardholders affiliated with TMC institutions that are notconsidered educational.  Choose TMC Institutional Access if you are affiliated with any Texas Medical Centerinstitution not listed above.  Those at this level have access to 1,500 ejournals and 80 databases.Cardholder - This group includes HAM–TMC Library cardholders not affiliated with TMC.  For example, staff at acontract hospital, an employee of a law firm that has purchased one of our cards, and members of the Harris CountyMedical Society fall into this group.  Those at this level have access to 1,000 ejournals and 30 databases.Open - This includes all non-cardholders and allows access to 500 ejournals and 30 databases. The Library proudly invites everyone to come by for a look or to tryout the facilities.Located on the Library’s Street Level, the computer lab contains 17 networked computer workstations equipped with:• Internet Explorer and Netscape Web Browsers • Excel 2000 spreadsheet software• Microsoft Word 2000 word-processing software • Radio Easy CD Creator• PowerPoint 2000 presentation softwareThe computer lab offers black-and-white laserprinting for $.10 per page and color laserprinting for $.50 per page.  Two colorscanners are also available in the lab.
