McGovern Museum of Health andMedical Science on May 27, 2005. Laura Wilkinson, 2000Olympic Platform Diving Gold Medallist and 2004 World CupGold Medallist, was the featured speaker, addressing thetopic Overcoming Injury and Adversity.Other speakers and topics included Peter Davis, PhD, Director of Coaching and Sport Sciences, US OlympicCommittee, Technology in Sports Enhancement; Coach JohnHerndon, CH Basketball Skills, Private Basketball Instruction,Healthy Coaching and Winning; Carlos R. Hamilton, Jr., MD,Executive Vice President for External Affairs, The University ofTexas Health Science Center at Houston and Member,World Anti Doping Agency, Steroids and Drug Testing;John Eliot, PhD, Rice University Department of Kinesiologyand National Center for Human Performance, Ethics of Performance Enhancement.Conference attendees were welcomed by Richard E. Wainerdi, PhD,President of the Texas Medical Center and Elizabeth K. Eaton, PhD,Executive Director of the HAM-TMC Library.The web cast will soon be on the Library web page at:http://resource.library.tmc.edu/WiFi Available to HAM-TMC Library Card HoldersThe HAM-TMC Library has a new high speed wireless internet system “hot-spot” for clients withwireless laptops and PDAs. The network is open to all clients free of charge without filters. Nospecial encryption settings or passwords are required. All you need is a wireless enabled devicethat supports the WiFi standard 802.3b or 802.3g. Utilizing the IEEE 802.3g standard, the systemoffers connections up to 54 Mbps while maintaining compatibility for older 802.11 devices. Themultiple access point network provides easy access to available Library content and to destinationson the Internet from virtually anywhere in the Library.Clients may see other “hot-spots” from neighboring institutions so it is important to note that theLibrary’s network link will begin with “HAM-TMCL...”All clients are expected to be familiar with their own devices as the Library will not be able to provide technical assistance.Please note: The Library’s wireless network is not secure.
