Biblioteka w kulturze – kultura w bibliotece : procesy informacyjno-biblioteczne na tle polskiej kultury narodowej

Abstract

In this paper there is described the influence of Polish culture on the informational process, on the users behavior and informational culture. There are characterized cultural differences and their comparative analysis. The Polish national culture was described in terms of: the power distance, the individualism-collectivism and the level of tolerance to uncertainty from two points of view: from organizational culture in academic libraries and from the view of users and their informational needs, behavior and culture. The author suggests that positive influence on information process have following factors: tendency to equality, collective orientation (but with some elements of individualism) and remarkably high level of tolerance to uncertainty. The aim of this paper is to trigger off a discussion about the organizational culture in the Polish academic libraries and information services and also to initiate a debate regarding our software of mind – as the national culture was named by G. Hofstede
