This study will reveal the code switching and code mixing in a religious activity in
cultural lectures using sociolinguistic approach. This approach is used to explain the event of
code switching and code mixing, and also factors in the linguistic phenomena in a social
interaction on the anniversary lecturesof AREMA INDONESIA by Emha Ainun Najib.
A research methodology is required, besides theoretical approach. The data collecting
technique is done by using the basic technique of listening carefully-tapping-writing and the
data analysis in this research is descriptive qualitative research, in which the researcher
describes the result of the study in the form of words or sentences and does not measure
variable followed by detailed discussion. With these conditions, the understanding principles
of research will be easier to maintain. This research showed the event of code switching and
code mixing. Some factors influenced in the events are neighborhood, the function of
interaction and participant factors
