This paper is a feminist stylistic analysis of Triyanto Triwikromo’s short story “Tujuh
Belas Agustus Tanpa Tahun”, which was chosen because of its social critiques to the people
of Indonesia. I used feminist stylistics as the main theoretical framework, for feminist stylistics
enables me to discover not only the interpretation of the texts, but also the gender bias hidden
within it. While gender bias can actually be found in all elements of a narrative, in this paper I
focus mainly on the characters of the story. The female character of the story Ibu is illustrated
as weak, vulnerable, and powerless. Never in the story is she described in relation to her
individual achievement, while the male characters are portrayed in a more positive way
