This study is devoted to the effect of surface roughness on bearing performance. Shaft and shell roughness are both taken into account. For both sides, surface roughness is accounted in the form of sin function and rotation effect of shell roughness involved in the model as well. Evaluation of the results leads to conclusion that increase in total roughness improves the bearing performance characteristics. But some contraints for surface roughness must be considered. Having these constraints existing, it comes out that the relation between performance parameters and surface roughnes can be obtained by an optimization procedure
