The State of Human Rights in Bangladesh

Abstract

The system of justice in Bangladesh is derived from the common law system. The judiciary tends to be conservative in its application of international law. While in many cases the judiciary has cited international laws, its decisions have not always been based on these laws. The high court division, in cases relating to women's rights, has often based its decision on the constitution, rather than on the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of discrimination against Women.
