(EC)2 is a series of annual international conferences on research in quantitative economics and econometrics. The first 
conference in the series was organized in 1990, the last one in Dublin in 2000. The acronym (EC)2 stands for 
European Conferences of the Econom[etr]ics Community. The main aim of these conferences is to provide a 
convenient forum for both senior and junior European researchers in quantitative economics and econometrics to 
discuss their research results. The theme of the conference for 2001 is Causality and Exogeneity in Econometrics. 
Economists and econometricians have long been studying the issue of causality, i.e. the issue of identifying a causal 
relation between an outcome and a set of factors that may have determined this outcome. Granger and Sims, in 
particular, made this concept operational in time series and macroeconometric modelling. A closely related, but 
different, concept is that of exogeneity (with contributions by Richard, Hendry and Mizon). The aim of the congress is 
to these concepts especially in view of new developments in econometric modelling during the last ten years. Topics 
such as causal inference, causality in non-linear time series models, the issue of identifying the "treatment effect" in 
microeconometrics, and forecasting are definitely within the theme of the congress. Both theoretical and applied 
contributions are expected. The invited speakers are: James Heckman (University of Chicago) Jean-Pierre Florens 
(University of Toulouse) David Hendry (University of Oxford) Guido Imbens (UCLA) Jan Kiviet (University of 
Amsterdam) The programme will also contain a limited number of contributed paper presentations and two poster 
sessions. As in previous (EC)2 Conferences, the number of participants is restricted to 100. Submissions to the 
conference are now invited. The Program Chair for (EC)2 2001 is Jean-Pierre Urbain. Submissions should be sent
