Generally, these conditionsare not found in an opened warehouse of the seedproducers. In addition, the calculation of the constantsKe, Cw CH and Co are difficult and labour The objectiveof this paper was to test the simplified equation forpredicting the changes in seed viability on uncon-trollable envirorment conditions. The simplified modelis given by the following equation: Vt = Vi - tgb.p, whereVt is the percentage viability in probit for a period p, Viis the initial seed quality and tgb is the rate of seeddeterioration of seed lot expressed as an angularcoeficient of the line. Seeds of hybrid corn BR 201and BR 206 and soybean var. The rate of seed deteoration (tgb) ranged from1,476.10.3 for corn to 3,6167.10.3 for soybean. Themodel accurately predicted germination after 360 daysat opened storage for soybean (4 per cent points) andfor corn (2 percent points) compared across twolocations (R2>0.97). The simplified equation modelseems to be sim pie, efficient and promissing inpredicting storability of corn and soybean seeds in anopened storage conditions, being of great value toseed producers and seedsmen.V7 - N° 3 - Dezembro, 1997.ABRATES
