In spite of its economical importance, little isknown about many aspects of the ecology of thisspecies. This study aimed to evaluate themechanisms involved in the infestation of newbunches under natural conditions and when allbunches are removed from a tree, and the time spentin this processes in both cases. We then studied thepopulation dynamics of A. guerreronis using a scaleof damage intensity. Damage intensity wasevaluated under four different conditions, using adiagrammatic scale: (i) plants with all bunchesremoved; (ii) plants with the distal portion of thespikelets removed; (iii) plants bimonthly sprayedwith Vertimec I8CE (Abamectin) (9glha); and (iv)controI plants. For each treatment, two fruits fromeach of bunches 1-6 were randomly collected everymonth during four months. The removal of spikelethad no effect on the damage level of new bunches,but the occurrence of peak populations was delayedby about a month. Removal of all bunches did notaffect the population leveI of the pest; in twomonths, population density reached the same level ithad before bunch removal. The bimonthlyapplication of Vertimec was efficient in maintainingthe infestation of A. guerreronis at low levels.Based on the results of this study, the most probableforrns of dispersal of A. guerreronis are discussed.Wednesday 25, Afternoon, Auditorium - Poster
