XVI ICSZ–InternationalColloquiumonSoilZoologySoilEcotoxicologyandOtherStressors–PosterPresentationsǦ210Ǧ[FR_STRESS_P5] Use of Enchytraeus crypticus in ecotoxicological tests in Brazil CÍNTIA NIVA1,2, JULIA NIEMEYER3, BETANI VIEIRA4 ADRIANA CARVALHO4,5, GEORGE BROWN2 1PNPD-CNPq, Brazil; 2Embrapa Forestry, Brazil;3UFBA, Brazil;  4Faculdades Pequeno Príncipe, Brazil;5Faculdade Educacional Araucária  Although the acute test with earthworms in soil ecotoxicological assessments has becomemoreusualinBrazil,theuseofreproductiontestswithearthwormsorenchytraeids(ERT)arestilllimited.InthecaseofERT,thisismainlyduetothescarceknowledgeonthepotentialofenchytraeidsasbioindicatorsofsoilquality.Meanwhile,untilanadequateneotropicalspeciesisfoundandrecommended,EnchytraeuscrypticusWestheide&Graefe,1992 isprobablythemost indicated test species due to its short generation time and better tolerance totemperatures >20°C when compared to the reference species Enchytraeus albidus Henle,1837.WetestedadaptationstotheERTdescribedinISO16387guideline,includingtheuseoftropicalartificialsoil(TAS),whichusescoconutfiber insteadofsphagnumpeatasanorganicmattersource,highertemperatureandshorterexposuretime.E.crypticusreproducedwellinTASwithout contaminant at22°C and25°C and showed an average>1000 juvenilesper10adultsafter28days,which is>20timestheminimumrecommendedforfulfillingthevaliditycriteria for ERT. On the other hand, it made juvenile counting too laborious and timeconsuming.Therefore,2and3weeksofexposureat22°Cwastestedresultingin8and13Ͳfoldmore juveniles than the recommended, and acceptable coefficientof variationonly for thelonger exposure. Using ERT with carbendazim in a commercial formulation in these latterconditionsledtoaNOECof2.5mga.i.kgͲ1dryTASandEC50(estimatedbyhormesismodel)of14.8mga.i.kgͲ1.Mortalityof50%ofthepopulationafter2weekswasnotobservedevenat1000mga.i.kgͲ1.New testswillbeperformed toconfirm the resultsobtainedso farand todetermine the toxicityof carbendazimat25°C.Residueanalysesof carbendazim inTASwillalsobeperformed.
