The methodologies and devices to monitor fuelshave been developed for petroleum, which are being adapted for oil vegetal and biodiesel. Some areexpensive and take a long time for giving a result. They not must be used for vegetal oils and biodieselbecause show various limitations. Therefore, new devices and methods proper shall be necessaries toexam the biofuels and to assist since the first steps of the production until the final stage. Thephotoacoustic technique (PA) is based on the absorption of electromagnetic radiation by samples. Theabsorbed energy is detected by pressure fluctuations such as sound waves or shock pulses. This meansthat PA can be used for on-line monitoring in technical processes without the need for samplepreparation. Thus, technique PA can serve to monitor the quality of these products. The EmbrapaInstrumentação Agropecuária has a Photoacoustic Laboratory mounted with financial support of theFAPESP. The stability of the biofuel is a problem due to oxidation, humidity, corrosion and othersfactors. The great challenge current and future is to maintain the stability and quality according to thestandards. During the near 15 years we shall have many works in improvement since the seeds, thecrop until the final product. We shall hope that the PA can contribute in the solution of some problems.
