Speg.] BY DESICCATION AND ABATREATMENT1Douglas Barduche2, Renato Paiva3, Claudinei AndreoU4 & Edilson Paiva5In this work we studied the effect of ABA and seed desiccation 00 thegermination and embryo protein profile of Angico vermelho, a Brazilianleguminous wood tree which shows non-dormant seeds. The treatments consistedof mature seeds soaked for 5 hours either in dH20 or io 10-4 M solutioo ofABA. The water soaked seeds were either placed to germinate right after soakiogor after drying for 24 hours at 37° C. The germinatioo conditions consisted ioplacing the seeds io Petri dishes with filter papers wetted with the soakiogsolutioo at 30° C in light for 8 hours and 20° C io the dark for 16 hours. SDSprotein profiles were obtained from embryos iocubated for 24 hours io a 3%sucrose solution cootaining Oor 10-4 M of ABA and also from embryos excisedfrom seeds submitted to drying for 24 hours at 37° C. In both cases the seedswere previously soaked for 5 hours in dH20. After 2 days under germinatiooconditions the dH20 soaked seeds showed 76 % of germination while the seedssoaked in the 10-4 M of ABA solution and those dried for 24 hours after soakingshowed a germination around 30 %. The SDS protein patterns obtained from theexcised embryos were similar for alI three treatments.
