Properly applied,commercial management includes regularscouting, identifying pests and beneficiais, assessingthe landscape's ecological status, and applyinginterventions as needed. When pesticides arerequired, minimal areas are treated. Biologicalcontrol is desired, but information is lacking. Thetwospotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch(Acari: Tetranychidae), is a pest of landscapebedding plants and often requires control.Miticides are available but their use often isobjectionable in the landscape. Experiments wereperformed to evaluate a single release ofPhytoseiu/us persimifis Athias-Henriot (Acari:I Phytoseiidae) predatory mites for spider mitecontrol in marigold (Tagetes patula L.) landscapeplant beds in comparison to a miticide and anuntreated control. Programs of the miticidesabamectin, bifenazate, and hexythiazox controlledthe spider mites exceptionally well. P. persimilisapplied at 3-5 predators per plant controlled thespider mites after about 5-6 weeks. Some spidermite damage occurred to plants before predatorsgained control. This aspectshould be taken into consideration for theheliconia indication, selection and management asornamental plants. The objective of this study wasto evaluate the insects associated to Heliconia spp.inflorescenses used as ornamental plants. FromMarch 2005 to March 2006, the insects fromHeliconia spp. inflorescences from the UFRPEHeliconia Collection, in Pernambuco-Brazil werecollected. The f10wering period, inflorescencecolor, position and number of bracts was considerto analyze the insects infestation.The genotypes H.pseudoaemygdiana, H. rauliniana, Heliconia xnickeriensis, H. psittacorum x H. spathocircinata cv.Alan Carle, H. psittacorum cvs, Suriname Sassy,Strawberries & Cream, Red and Red Gold Opaland H. /atispatha cv.Yellow-Red Gyro present lessthan 20% of infested inflorescences, however, itoccured in more than 50% of the assessed months,excepted for H. pseudoaemygdiana and H.rauliniana. It was observed difference in infestedinflorescence frequencies values between thegenotypes with erect and pendent inflorescences,and between genotypes cultivated in full sun andhalf shade, The months of highest temperaturedemonstrate the highest infested inflorescencefrequency.115-.1 _
