Productive labour, priceivalue ratio and rate of surplus-value: theoretical view, points and empirical evidence on the usa (1948-1987) and e.e.c. countries (1960/70/1986).

Abstract

Presenting as empirical support data on the economies ofthe United States (1948-1987) and the European Economic Community (1960/70-86) the essay seeks to contribute with theoretical and methodological elements to the debate on the theory of the rate of surplus-value. The first section of the essay presents the author's position in respect to the debate on the theory of value, without an exhaustive revision. The second section refers to the relationship that exists between the addition of 'prices and of values taklng into account the relationships that are established between monetary and labour magnitudes as well as the methods used to simulate them. Section three refers to problems related to the measurement of the rate of surplus-value in order to establish the relationship between forms and measures based on national account data and evaluating its role. The rase of surplus-value is estimated for the economies of United States and the European Economic Community as well as its evolution. Finally, a method that can analyze the evolution of the factors that affect the rase of surplus- value is proposed and applied to these coumries.Presentando datos provenientes de la economía de los Estados Unidos (1948-1987) y la Comunidad Econ6mica Europea (1960/70-1986) como soporte empírico, el articulo busca aportar algunos elementos teóricos y metodológicos al debate sobre la tasa de plusvalía: En la primera parte se presenta la posición del autor acerca del controvertido debate sobre el valor sin hacer una revisión exhaustiva de éste. La segunda sección se ocupa del examen de la relación existente entre la suma total de los precios y la suma total de los valores considerando las conexiones que ésta establece entre magnitudes monetarias y magnitudes de trabajo y el método utilizado para estimarlas. En tercer lugar se consideran los problemas relacionados con la medición de la tasa de plusvalía para establecer luego la relación entre la forma y medidas basadas en los datos de las cuentas nacionales evaluando su papel Se estiman aquí el nivel y evolución de la tasa de plusvalía en los E.E. U. U. Y la C.E.E. Por último, se ofrece un método que busca analizar la evolución de los factores que afectan la tasa de plusvalía aplicándolos a los mismos países
