Etnobotánica de las palmas en las tierras bajas del Pacífico colombiano, con énfasis en la palma cabecinegro (Manicaria saccifera Gaertn)

Abstract

El presente estudio tuvo dos componentes principales: 1. La consolidación de la información existente sobre el uso y manejo de las Palmas en las tierras bajas del Pacífico de Colombia, reuniendo citas, incluyendo la literatura primaria, secundaria y gris, y la información de los herbarios. Con los resultados se identificaron los vacíos de información y se sugieren temas para futuras investigaciones en el área. 2. Documentar los usos de la fibra y la cadena de comercialización de productos derivados de Manicaria saccifera, una de las palmas más utilizadas en las tierras bajas del Pacífico. Esta especie es una palma de gran tamaño, que forma rodales grandes casi homogéneos en el sotobosque de las llanuras aluviales de las tierras bajas del Pacífico de Colombia. En la región central del Chocó esta palma constituye un recurso útil para la población nativa, principalmente afrodescendientes e indígenas Embera, que utilizan la bráctea peduncular para producir una variedad de artesanías. Los usos y la información económica se obtuvieron a través de trabajo de campo directo y entrevistas estructuradas y semiestructuradas, que abarcaron todo el proceso desde la extracción hasta la transformación y comercialización. Los resultados muestran que si bien el efecto de la cosecha no es tan dramático, pues las diferencias entre estructura de las poblaciones cosechadas y no cosechadas es muy poca, si se evidencia definitivamente un efecto leve a nivel de reclutamiento y de la regeneración, que puede ser un indicativo de que esta práctica está afectando la capacidad reproductiva de la palma. / Abstract. The present study has two main components: 1. Compilation of the existing information about the use and management of palms in the Pacific lowlands of Colombia by gathering citations, including primary, secondary, and gray literature, and information from herbaria. With the result we will try to identify information gaps and to suggest topics for future research in the area. 2. To document the uses of fiber and the market chain of products derived from Manicaria saccifera, one of the most used palms in the Pacific lowlands. Manicaria saccifera is a large palm that forms large and almost homogeneous stands in the forest understory of alluvial flood plains in the Pacific lowlands of Colombia. In the central Chocó region, this palm constitutes a useful resource for the native population, mainly afrodescendants and Embera Indians, who use the peduncular bract to produce a wide array of handicrafts. Uses and economic information were obtained through direct fieldwork and structured and semistructured interviews, covering the whole process from extraction to transformation and marketing. The results will be used to make recommendation on its management. The results show that although the effect of harvest is not severe, since the differences in structure of harvested and unharvested populations is very little, there is a slight effect at the level of recruitment and regeneration, which may be indicative that this practice is affecting the reproductive capacity of the palm.Maestrí
