About the Authors About the AuthorsGintarė BERNOTIENĖ is a researcher, literary critic, academic staff member at the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, Department of Contemporary Lithuanian Literature, Vilnius, Lithuania, member of Lithuanian Comparative Literature Association and of the editorial board of scientific journal Colloquia. In 2002 she defended her doctoral dissertation Interrelation between Art, Architecture and Literature in the Poetry of Judita Vaičiūnaitė and Leonardas Gutauskas. She has published the monograph Searching for the Interrelations between Arts: On the basis of Judita Vaičiūnaitė and Leonardas Gutauskas poetry (2005) and edited Judita Vaičiūnaitė’s Oeuvre (2005–2008, 3 vol., with introduction an commentary). Her scientific interests include contemporary Lithuanian and Soviet poetry, comparative literature, poetry translation, interrelations of visual arts and literature.Samuel BIDAUD has a PhD in Romance Linguistics (2014) from the University of Burgundy (France). After being Asssistant Teacher at the University of Burgundy from 2011 to 2014 and then at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne from 2014 to 2015, he is now a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University Palacký of Olomouc (Czech Republic), where he also teaches French language. He has written a book (La vicariance en français et dans les langues romanes (italien, espagnol, portugais)) and several articles about Romance languages and literatures, comparative literature, and cinema. He is especially interested in Marcel Proust and Hergé.Dorothy FIGUEIRA is Professor in Comparative Literature at the University of Georgia, USA. Trained in both comparative literature and the history of religions, she is interested in the intersection of religion and literature. Her research includes: Translating the Orient (1991), The Exotic; A Decadent Quest (1994), Aryans, Jews and Brahmins: Theorizing Authority through Myths of Identity (2001) and Otherwise Occupied: Theories and Pedagogies of Alterity (2008). She has recently completed a volume on early European travel narratives to India. She has held positions at Cornell University, SUNY, University of Illinois; has been a visiting professor at Indiana University and the University of Lille. She has been the recipient of several Fulbrights to India. She holds degrees from the École Pratique en Sciences Sociales, Harvard University, the University of Chicago. She has served as president of the ICLA. Professor Figueira has served also as editor of The Comparatist and is currently editor of Recherche litteraire/Literary research, the review journal INTERLITT ERA RIA 2016, 21/1: 172–175173of the ICLA. She has edited several books including most recently with Marc Maufort, Theaters in the Round (2011).Katiliina GIELEN is a researcher and lecturer of translation theory and history at the Department of English Studies, University of Tartu, Estonia. She is currently heading a project to map Estonian translational thought through texts in translation history.  She has a PhD in Estonian translation history, but her interests also include comparative literary studies and intercultural communication.Klaarika KALDJÄRV has graduated from Tartu University where she works currently as lecturer of Spanish in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. She defended her PhD in 2007 on the problems of stability of the fictional world and its narrative structure in translation (Author, narrator, translator. The autofictions of Borges in Estonian). She has also translated into Spanish works of Tartu-Moscow Semiotic School and into Estonian works by Julio Cortázar and Roberto Bolaño. Her main research interests are problems of literary translation and its reception and functioning in the society.Anneli KÕVAMEES has a PhD in literary studies. She is a lecturer at the School of Humanities of Tallinn University. Her main research interests are Estonian literature, Estonian travel literature (travelogues), imagological literary research, national images and stereotypes in literature, e.g. the depiction of Italy in Estonian travelogues, the depiction of Russians in Estonian literature.Maria-Kristiina LOTMAN is Associate Professor at the University of Tartu. She obtained her PhD in 2003. Her research interests include ancient verse, its metre, rhythm, versification systems; typological analysis of quantitative verse; semantics of verse; methods and strategies of poetry translation. She is the co-editor of the international journal Studia Metrica et Poetica and the member of board of book series Bibliotheca Antiqua and Bibliotheca Artis Poeticae.Miriam McILFATRICK-KSENOFONTOV is lecturer of Irish literature and English language at the School of Humanities of Tallinn University. She is writing her doctoral thesis on the poetics of translation, focusing on contemporary Estonian poetry. Her research interests include Irish and Estonian poetry, the oral poetic tradition, cognitive stylistics, and theories of creativity. Her most recent publications are Kätlin Kaldmaa’s collection One is None (A Midsummer Night’s Press, 2014) and poems by Juhan Viiding and Triin Soomets in the anthology Six Estonian Poets (Arc Publications, 2015). Together with the Estonian poet Doris Kareva she co-edited the bilingual anthology Windship with Oars of Light (Huma, 2001) and Rogha Danta – seven Irish women poets in Estonian (verb, 2005). Her own poetry has appeared in Estonian literary journals in translation by Doris Kareva (Looming, 2015/1).Natalia NIKITINA has a PhD in European literature and has studied British, German, French and Russian authors of the 19th and 20th centuries withing the framework of comparative literature. Her research interests focus mainly on the smaller genre forms (e.g. short story, travelogue, etc.), as well as translation. She is a senior lecturer at the Department of Foreign languages, National Research University Higher School of Economics, St.Petersburg, Russia.Karita NUUT is a graduate of Tallinn University, where she specialised in English philology. Her academic interests include feminism, contemporary fiction, Native North American literature, and the trickster/hero interaction in mythology and literature. She is currently studying Business Information in Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland.Dominika ORAMUS is professor at the University of Warsaw. She teaches at the Institute of English Studies. Her special interests are science fiction, 20th century British fiction and the poetics of postmodernism, Angela Carter and J.G. Ballard. His academic interests include contemporary fiction in English, postmodern and postcolonial studies, analysis of poetry, US ethnic literatures, especially Native American prose. He has been working on tricksters for over a decade and published articles on trickster humour as well as the work of Louise Erdrich.175Ieva STEPONAVIČIŪTĖ, PhD, is assistant professor at the Center of Scandinavian Studies, Vilnius University, and co-editor of the series Scandinavistica Vilnensis. She has written the book Texts at play: The ludic aspect of Karen Blixen’s writings (Vilnius University, 2011), edited and compiled (together with E. Sausverde) the collections of articles Fun and puzzles in modern Scandinavian Studies (Vilnius University, 2015) and Approaching the Viking Age (Vilnius University, 2009), as well as published a number of articles on modern Scandinavian authors. Elin SÜTISTE defended her PhD in semiotics in 2009 with the thesis Tõlke mõiste dünaamikast tõlketeaduses ja eesti tõlkeloos (On the Dynamics of the Concept of Translation in Translation Studies and Estonian Translation History). She currently teaches at the Department of Semiotics, Institute of Philosophy and Semiotics, University of Tartu, and her research interests include semiotics of translation, interrelations of translation theory and practice, history of translation and semiotics of culture.Natalia TULIAKOVA is associate professor at the Department of Foreign languages, National Research University Higher School of Economics, St.Petersburg, Russia. She is currently working on a postdoctoral thesis concerning the genre of a legend in the nineteenth-century literatures. Her research interests are connected with comparative literature studies, particularly connections between Russian, European and USA literatures of the long nineteenth century.Katelis VIGLAS has studied History and Archaeology in the School of Philosophy at the University of Ioannina. With a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarship’s Foundation in the field of Byzantine and Neohellenic Philosophy he followed postgraduate studies at the Theological School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has a master’s degree in the field of Systematic Theology. In 2001 he earned his PhD with the thesis The Dialectic of Spiritual Ascent according to Plotinus. He is a member of the Greek Philosophical Society, the Working Group for the study of Byzantine Philosophy in Greece and the International Society for Philosophers. His research interests include Neo-Platonism, Byzantine Philosophy, Theology, Philosophy of History, History of Scientific Ideas, Anthropology, and Historiography.
