A reinvenção da transição demográfica: envelhecer antes de enriquecer?

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the acceleration of demographic transition in Brazil between 2000 and 2050. To do so, projections carried out by the Brazilian Bureau of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in 2004 and 2008 will be compared. In order to show that the country could grow old before reaching higher levels of income, indicators of population ageing are compared with those from developed countries.Demographic transition, population projection, fertility decline.
