Bagi kenai-kan berat perbezaan yang penting (P < 0.05) di antara kumpulan Jimplex dengan kumpulan Kontrol adalahdidapati. Ayam-ayam pedaging dari kumpulan Jimplex adalah lebih berat sebanyak 5.92% dan telah men-dapat pendapatan terhadap kos makanan bagi seekor burung yang lebih tinggi sebanyak $0.13, jika di-bandingkan dengan kumpulan Kontrol pada masa 63 han.SUMMARYThe four treatments were designated treat-ments L, J, Nand C. Treatments L, J and N wererations containing Lactozyme, Jimplex andNutrifac respectively. Lactozyme, Jimplex andNutrifac are different commercial feed additives.Lactozyme is a non-antibiotic feed additivecontaining aromatic, latic-acid bacteria (Lacto-bacillus and Streptococcus), enzymes (reninbromelain and lactase) Vitamin B-complex andUnknown Growth Factor (U.G.F.). Jimplex isderived from the culture of non-pathogenicstrain of Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus orzyaeon selected wheat bran. It is basically a multipleenzyme (amylase, protease and gumase) supple-ment. Nutrifac is a feed supplement preparedfrom antibiotic fermentation residues containingU.G.F., Vitamin B-complex, minerals and amino-acids. The cost of the additives was the same andcalculated at $0.95 per 100 lb. (45.45 kg) of pre-MATERIALS AND METHODSA randomized complete-block design withmore than one observation per experimental unit,The poultry industry in Malaysia is increasing-ly becoming more advanced and commercializedwith the result that more and more farmers areveering towards mechanization and integration. Ithas also stimulated the growth of other associatedindustries like the livestock feed industry, (Oh,1978). In the future there will be an increasingdemand for poultry meat. Projections indicatethat from 1979 to 1980 the country will requirean increase of 353.1 million pounds of poultrymeat (Mahendranathan and Leong, 1974). Withthe increased use of appropriate modern techno-logy, there is every likelihood of poultry farmersimproving production efficiency. Oh et al (1978)reported that maximum .profit in broiler produc-tion could be realized by using farm-mixed rations.High density diets as described by Raghavan et al(1978) could also lead to improved productionperformance. Feed additives are used in commer-cial or farm-mixed poultry ration and these havethe effect of improving performance. The objec-tive of this study therefore was to determine theperformance of broilers fed different feed addi-tives.A study of the production performance of broilers fed different feed additives (Lactozyme, Jim-plex, and Nutrifac), indicated no significant difference among the treatment means concerning feed con-sumption and feed conversion. Broilers from the Jimplex group were 5.92% heavier and had a higher incomeover feed cost per bird by $0.13 when compared to those from the con trol group at 63 days ofage.INTRODUCTION as described by Steel and Torrie (1960) was used.In this design a total of 1,500 day-old chickswere used and assigned to five blocks with eachblock having 300 birds. As there were four treat-ments in each block, each treatment contained 75birds. Each treatment in each block essentiallyhad three observations with 25 birds assigned toeach observation. The birds were kept in raisedcages with each cage measuring 3' X 8' X 114'for each observation.53B. T. OH AND T. K. MAKpared ration for treatments L, J and N. In treat-ments Land J, 50 gm each of Lactozyme and Jim-plex were added to every 100 lb. of preparedration. Treatment N contained 300 gm of Nutri-fac for every 100 Ib of prepared ration. Treat-ment C had no special feed additive in the ration.Table 1 shows the calculated chemical com-position of the farm-mixed broiler starter and fill-isher rations. The mean feed consumption values forthe different treatments ranged from 4.57 to4.71 kg. These differences in values were howevernot significant as indicated in Table 3. Chickensreceiving feed containing Jimplex had the highestbody-weight gain of 2.27 kg per bird, while thelowest body-weight gain of 2.15 kg. per bird wasfound in the Control 'group. This difference inweight gain was 5.92% in favour of the Jimplexgroup. The Lactozyme and Nutrifac groups eachhad weight gains of2.21 kg.. The F-test for weightgain in Table 4 showed a significant differenceamong the treatment groups, at the 5% level. ByTukey's w-procedure (Steel and Torrie, 1960), itwas found that the difference between the Jimplexand Control means was significant (p < 0.05). As for feed conversion,no significant difference was found among thetreatment means (Table 5). The mean values forfeed conversion ranged from 2.07 to 2.13.It is further noted that birds from the Lacto-zyme, Jimplex and Nutrifac groups consumedmore feed, gained heavier weights, and showedlower feed conversion than birds from the Controlgroup.FO.05 (3, 12 df) = 3.49Source of Variation df. However,on the basis of the significant difference betweenthe Jimplex and Control groups for weight gain, itmight perhaps be more profitable to use feedcontaining Jimplex. This is indicated in Table 6which shows a difference of $0.13 in income overfeed cost.
