Acidentes do trabalho no Brasil, 2004: um estudo ecológico utilizando componentes principais

Abstract

The present study characterized the States of Brazil in relation to factors related to work injuries. Data came from the Anuário Estatístico de Acidentes do Trabalho (AEAT), 2004. A description of the data was made and the multivariate method Principal Components Analysis was used. Three components were found. The first one contrasted incidence rate and consequence of the accident. States of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Espírito Santo showed high incidence rates and accidents with less grave consequences. The second component revealed an association beteween the consequence of the accident and the risk group. In Roraima, Santa Catarina and Amazonas the grave risk group was associated to the simple medical assistance. The third component contrasted age and incidence. For Rio Grande do Sul, Roraima and Rio de Janeiro, the incidence rate was high, with high levels of temporary disability, for all risk groups and took place among workers above age 40. Finally, it was possible to notice that the Southern States showed a lower risk profile of work injuries, as compared to the Northern States.Brazil, Work Injuries, principal components analysis, ecological study
