Abstract

Wooden bridge structures serve the infrastructural needs of humankind since prehistoric times. From the naturally fallen tree trunks to the long-span cable-bridges the evolution of structures and materials resulted in countless technical solutions. Without aiming completeness, a brief overview about the development of wooden bridges is provided. This first part of the series discusses the bridges of ancient cultures and following states at the given geographical location
