Net migration to Russia — Factors, prospects and conclusions for migration policy

Abstract

Econometric models lead to the conclusion that presently the migratory population increase in the Russian Federation is determined mostly by the economic-demographic situation in the post-Soviet countries rather than in Russia itself Gradually Russia becomes less and less attractive for immigration In the long run the rate of the migratory population increase in the RF will depend primarily on the level of economic development of Russia as compared to other countries, as well as on the attitude towards immigrants In the paper much attention is paid to ethnic factors and migratory networkMigration of population; net migration; migration policy; post-Soviet space
