This work presents the context and the contents of the
Qualitative Research in Information Systems. The context is obtained
and presented analyzing four perspectives that allow to locate
interest areas in the study of Information Systems and their
relationships with people. The perspectives are: historical,
etymological, one of projects, and organizational. With these
perspectives contents within Qualitative Research in Information
Systems are described, as well as their domain and some guiding open
