Heterogeneity effects in single-solute adsorption from dilute solutions on solids

Abstract

The most important isotherm equations describing single-solute adsorption from dilute solutions on energetically heterogeneous solids have been presented in the form of two general equations. The energy distribution functions corresponding to these isotherm equations have been also discussed to show the differences and resemblances among them. The above discussion has been illustrated by the model calculations. Experimental data of indol and phenol adsorption from dilute aqueous solutions on three types of activated carbons have been described by using three chosen isotherm equations. Validity of the obtained results has been checked by comparison of the theoretical isotherms and the energy distributions corresponding to them
