Modern Transformation of Local Opera and Construction of Regional Culture: A Study of Xiang Opera

Abstract

本文试图探索晚清至1930年代“湘剧”在认知与实践层面上的建构过程。自清中叶以来,随着城市商业化进程的推进,地方戏曲演出兴盛起来,演出机制逐渐扩展。这一时期内,在地方精英的价值评估话语中,戏曲的角色在“声色”与“教化”两个范畴之间游移;这使得他们一方面将戏曲排除在正统的文化体系之外;另一方面习惯性地参与到地方戏曲的活动中。晚清至民国初期,在新兴的知识分子重构“文化”的过程中,戏曲被纳入“文化”的范畴;地方戏曲亦获得了文化上的地位,但尚未发展成为一个内部分化的艺术体系。1920年以来,闲吟曲社的票友群体确立了“湘剧”这一概念,地方戏曲被建构为地域传统与文化的表征,其艺术本质及特征逐渐得以凸显。1...The dissertation surveys the making of Xiang Opera from the late Qing period until the 1930s, when the regional society and culture underwent a process of modern transformation.
