We present theoretical calculations of the quasi-molecular line profiles for
the Lyman (Lya, Lyb, Lyg, Lyd) and Balmer (Ha, Hb, Hg, Hd, He, H8, H9, and H10)
series, perturbed by collisions with protons. In all calculations we include
the dependence of the dipole moments as a function of internuclear distance
during the collision. The broadening from ion collisions must be added to the
normal electron Stark broadening.Comment: 13 pages, 24 figures and 7 table

Theoretical study of the line profiles of the hydrogen perturbed by collisions with protons

O foco deste trabalho é o estudo -da interação do átomo de hidrogênio com prótons, criando momentaneamente a molécula 112, determinando os potenciais dó para níveis atômicos maisaltos (n>3), bem como analisando todas as possíveis transições qUe podem ocorrer. O cálculo do momento de dipolo elétrico do para todas as possíveis transições que encontramos é de suma importância para determinar as linhas espectraiS observáveis: A aplicação de tais dados teóricos terá sua inserção no estudo dos perfis de linhas de estrelas anãs brancas DA, com o intuito de obter melhores ajustes dos ,modelos de atmosferas estelares. Para isso calculamos todos os potenciais relevantes para as transições- das séries de Lyman e Balmer até n=10 (numero quântico principal) do 1-12 e os respectivos momentos de dipolo elétricos para. tais séries. Na literatura, encontra-se somente os valores para Lya,_ Ly0., try e. Ha, mas mesmo estes, com aproximaçõeS mais grosseiras do que as que calculamos. As leis da física permitem o cálculo de um modelo de atmosfera estelar num dado instante de sua evolução e o-confronto com os dados observacionais. Entretanto, por melhor que seja o modelo, ainda não se obteve um resultado plenamente satisfatório entre teoria e observação. Ainda existem muitas incertezas nos modelos estelares, principalmente nos cálculos de opacidade e convecção, quando comparamos aos, dados observácionais, o que implica na necessidade de cálculo mais detalhado da física que rege tais modelos. O objetivo principal desse trabalho e calcular os potenciaiS de interação das partículas constituintes da atmosfera e analisar as linhas- espectrais das estrelas que já estão na última fase de evohição, as anãs brancas com unia atmosfera pura de hidrogênio, chamadas de DAs.  Um dos melhores métodos para a determinação da temperatura efetiva e obtenção da gravidade superficial de anãs brancas, e a comparaçãO do perfil da linha observado, a forma da linha espectral com o predito teoricamente. A eficiência desse método está no fato que o perfil da linha teórico.é extremamente sensível à variação dos parâmetros atmosféricos - os perfis de Ha e H,3 são bons indicadores de temperatura efetiva {T6 f ), enquanto os perfis das linhas mais altas são bons indicadores da gravidade ,superficial. Entretanto, a técnica supostamente simples possui um grau elevado de dificuldade, pois precisamos saber quais são todas as causas físicas responsáveis pela variação dos parâmetros atmosféricos que determinam o perfil da linha. ESte é o objetivo de nosso trabalho, o cálculo do perfil de linha de H perturbado por colisões. com prótons.The subject of this work is the study of the interaction of the hydrogen atom with protons, temporarily creating' from this interaction the molecule. We estimated the potential for ali leveis with n < 10 and analyze ali posSible transitions that can occur. We also calculated the electric dipole moment of fôr ali possible transitions that we find, necessary for the line profile'calculation. The application of such theoretical data will be in the context of the line profileá of DA white dwarfs, as refinernent in the modeis of stellar átmospheres. For this, I calculated ali the potential relevant to the transitions of ,the Lyman and Balnier series to n=10 (principal atomic quantum number), and their electric dipole Moments. In the Jiterature we find. only Lya, Ly13, Ly-y and Ho calculations, but even these at lower resolutions and with the asymptotic approximations. The laws of physics allow the calculation of a stellar atmosphere módel for a partidular, mornent in its evolution and the comparison with observational data. However, no matter how good the model is, it has not yet achieved a fully satis factory resulta There are .still many uncertainties in the •stellar thodels in relation the observational data, showing the need for a more detailed analysis of the physics that governs such modeis The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the Spectral limes, ,calculating the potential of interacting particles coristituents of the atmosphere of white dwarf stars with pure hydrogen atmosphere, `called DAs. One of the best methods for analysis of spectral limes, determining the effective temperature 'and obtaining surface gravity of white'dwarfs with hydrogen limes, is the comparison the obseryation of -lMe profile, the chape of the spectral line, with the theoretically predicted.  The efficiency of this method is based on the fact that the theoretical line profile is extremely sensitiva to variations of atmospheric paramet,ers. Howéver; the supposeclly simple technique has a high degree of difficulty, because we .need to know ali the causes responsible for the determination of the physical parameters of the atmosphere affecting the line profile.
