Abstract

This PhD thesis is focused on a variety of excitable dynamical systems which can be described as a system of reaction cells coupled by diffusion -type mass exchange. Such systems may be of chemical or biochemical type. Among reactions investigated in this work belongs the Belousov - Zhabotinsky (BZ) (1,2) reaction which represents a model chemical system and the Calcium - Induced Calcium Release (CICR) (3) and Inositol - Calcium Cross - Coupling (ICC) (4) which reperesent model biological systems, particularly models of the dynamics of calcium ions in cytosol. An effect of parameter changes on excitability for all above mentioned model systems is of interest. In particular, the effect of coupling strength on signal propagation in excitable medium when the first reaction cell was perturbed by external periodic pulses were studied in detail by numerical modelling.Available from STL Prague, CZ / NTK - National Technical LibrarySIGLECZCzech Republi
