Analise e Mitigacao do Impacto Ambiental Causado pela Subsidencia de Vida a Minas Subterraneas

Abstract

Mining subsidence can influence the surface environment especially by means of damage caused to surface structures. In order to assist appreciating the effect of mining subsidence on surface structures, detailed studies of building damage were carried out and correlated to mining subsidence. With the purpose of analysing the subsidence mechanisms and the rock mass behaviour simulation studies were developed, using the finite element programs "ELPS" and "PLAXIS". Basically, two major research directions were developed: 1)-Simulation of the subsidence evolution by the finite element method. 2)-A database development related to mine subsidence and environmental control. The activities performed for subsidence control in the Germunde Coal Mine located in northern Portugal are described. The obtained results were calibrated with the real topographical data available to back-analysis and their agreement allow the prediction of future behaviour for the mine rock mass. In the simulation that were performed the hydrogeomechanics behaviour of the rock mass was included. Detailed building damage analysis of realistic cases related to Germunde coal mine were also conducted to obtain an insight into building damage mechanisms. Finally, methods for the minimization of subsidence and its effects by means of surface and underground workings are describedAvailable from Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, Servico de Informacao e Documentacao, Av.
