GRANO. Oekologische Konzeptionen fuer die Gestaltung regionaltypischer Agrarlandschaften Nordost-Deutschlands Projektantrag. Schlussbericht

Abstract

The fundamental relationships and mechanisms between land use and environmental problems have been studied extensively and are well known, so are basic principles to reduce environmental impacts of land use. What has not been investigated well enough are practical ways to put ecological knowledge into action. Within the time span of funding we therefore outlined a framework for the development of sustainable rural landscapes which includes a variety of ecological, socioeconomical and political conditions as well as the delineation of two study areas in which the concepts will be tested. Emphasis was put on a participatory approach for important decision makers of agricultural landscape use in this stage of concept development. Specifically, problem oriented analyses of the current state of both areas were conducted, including analyses of the constraints and options of decisions (Handlungsspielraeume) for a sustainable development of agricultural landscapes in ecological and economical terms. Furthermore, the aims of the project, the philosophy and the institutional organisation were worked out in detail.
