Atmos. Phase B2: satellite design Definition report

Abstract

ATMOS is a remote sensing satellite in a sunsynchronous polar orbit carrying four instruments for research and surveillance in the fields of global atmospheric and biospheric environment. This report deals with the technical aspects of the phase B2 which was performed by an industrial team led by Dornier as prime contractor under the direction of DARA. Based on updated requirements the system design, as well as the design of the subsystems, was revised and detailed. The interfaces, the environmental conditions, the AIV (Assembly, Integration and Verification) approach, the operational concept, the requirements on tests, on EMC (Electro-Magnetic Copatibility), on cleanliness, on ground support equipment, on instruments and on subsystems and units were defined and specified. Specifications were written accordingly. The efforts during the Phase B2 brought ATMOS to the state whereby a Phase C/D could almost immediately begin.
