SCOTs presenting at the Higher EducationAcademy Subject Centre for Health, Sciences andPractice Annual ‘Festival of Learning’ 10th - 12thMarch 2009 at the University of Wolverhampton.Students are ‘experts’ onwhat it is like to sit inclasses. The SCOTs arenot enrolled in theclasses of the lecturersthey work with, so theycan offer an objectivestudent perspective.SCOTs undertaketraining before workingon the project andattend regular SCOTsmeetings. The project is‘teacher driven’ andcompletely confidentialwith the lecturer and theSCOT negotiating howthe task will beundertaken.For further information about the SCOTs project go to http://tinyurl.com/lincolnscots or email scots@lincoln.ac.ukSCOTsStudents ConsultingOn TeachingThe SCOTsproject provides avaluable resource forlecturers to get studentfeedback on theteaching and learning intheir classes.About the projectStudents Consulting on Teaching is a pilotproject in the School of Health and SocialCare at the University of Lincoln.Upon request by an academic, a trainedstudent consultant/reviewer, who is not amember of the academic’s classes isinvited to provide feedback on teachingand learning in a particular session ormodule. This can be undertaken in a number ofdifferent ways, for example observation,interviews, video recording andtaking notes. Because invitedstudent consultant/reviewers arenot enrolled in that course, or havenot previously taken that course,the feedback that academicsreceive is from an impartialstudent’s perspective.About the teamThe SCOTs are undergraduate students who areemployed on a flexible part time basis.
