Abstract

At the Research Center of Karlsruhe a modular microanalysis system with electrochemical detection, called ELMAS, was developed containing ISFET microsensors and gas pumping micro membrane pumps. The work was done in the course of the project Micro System Technology. The liquid transport is realized by changing the pressure of the air volume above the liquid of the storage reservoir. The pH-ISFETs show a fast response and with flow rates of 200-300 #mu#l/min times short cycles for calibration and sensor measurement of 30-60 s can be realized. With increasing flow rates the cycle time decreases but the liquid consumption rises. For one measurement approximately 50 #mu#l of analyte and a maximum of 70 #mu#l calibration liquid is required. Because of the gas buffer in the storage reservoir the fluid flow is delayed by 5 seconds in comparison with the operation signals of the micropump.
