Higher order turbulence modelling for industrial applications

Abstract

Many complex flow phenomena take place in industrial applications. Their simulation requires an appropriate selection of physical models and numerical schemes in order to get reliable results. Higher order turbulence models provide a more general physical basis than presently used two equation models. Therefore, they get increased attention in industry, although a higher computational effort is often needed. On the other hand, modifications to eddy-viscosity models are being proposed to extend their range of applicability. The present paper is intended to give a comparison of different turbulence models for the specific flow phenomena of adverse pressure gradient and streamline curvature effects with the focus on robustness and accuracy of the investigated models.
