Packing of granular materials

Abstract

Granular materials are prevalent in the world at macro and micro scales, from the macro-scale of construction materials to the micro-scale of chemical powders. The properties of assemblages of grains are heavily controlled by the interparticle contacts. In order to assist with the better understanding of the means by which granular assemblages behave, this thesis seeks to develop understanding of the number, type and geometrical distribution of the contact points between individual grains.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo
